Iben Hjejle Danish actress what's her name?!
MIFUNE(’S LAST SONG) 1998. Iben Hjejle plays a prostitute, who leaves the city to take on a job as a housekeeper for two farmer brothers of which one is retarded and a Mifune samurai fan. The movie starts out with the other brother’s wedding, but the marriage never really starts, as the groom feels, he has to go back to the country to take care of his brother, as their father dies as his wedding present. He leaves them with a little fortune too (not in the usual way) so money is no problem and the sane (yeah, well...) brother tries to overpay the new housekeeper to stay, but as money really is no problem for a prostitute, the real reason, that she stays, is that the two brothers turn out to be the saviors of her problem little brat but good as gold brother (Emil Tarding) who - I might as well tell you, because that one is easy to get lost in subtitles - turns out to be the bastard, who has been disturbing his own sister with obscene phone calls. By the way, I’m not really sure, if she isn’t his mother - but as Iben looks a bit too young and Emil a bit too old - yes I think, she really is his mother.
Anyways, Emil falls in love with the retarded brother (not in that way!) and Iben falls in love with the other brother (yes, in that way!) and after everybody has been beaten up by everybody, you get the happiest end, you have ever seen. Boy gets girl, boy’s brother gets girl’s brother (still not in that way, you pervert!) and the band plays on for ever, because nobody else wants to listen to them! Emil might have grown just a liiittle bit too old from when he was cast till he sits there and doubt (Hello “Barnens Ö!”) that boy + girl + sex is everything...
As funny and friendly and mild this movie is, as harsh is its message, pointed out crystal clear by Iben, as she tells her little brother - son - that... life is one long turd and he better get used to eat a piece of it every day - life is a bitch on everybody - we all get abused - but that is no excuse not to behave well -especially with people, who love you. My god, I don’t think a movie ever has told the meaning of life more clearly! The dialog - in Danish - in this movie is so good - that I for the first time cry for a international remake in English, but then again especially Emil Tarding’s splendid brat dialog, of which he must have “written” half himself - only Danish boys talk that way - so I have a better suggestion: learn Danish!
The absolutely best of the Danish “dogma” series. Nobody are real idiots here, nobody fucks their own kids, the picture is bright, clear, pretty steady and in focus, Iben and Emil are attractive enough to eat and for the sound... Well, I’m not real sure, that it is a real dogma - if it is, the microphone-holder is in for an Oscar and a wheelchair! It is not true dogma anyway, there is music out of nowhere here and there and I’m not sure, that the orgasm, that more or less opens the whole thing, is not faked. This is the first time in centuries, that I have liked a Danish movie and as I have personal reasons enough to hate the cabbagehead communist filius nullius of the director, there you go... But I won’t mention his name. It’s blacklisted on this computer... By the way I don’t really remember his name... It think it starts with Mona...
