The Hobbits have long ago, before they even crossed the mauntains, divided into three different breeds; Harfoots,who had browner skin they are small and tall without beard, and are most likely to settle at highlands and hillsides. The Harfoots had in ancient times a lot to do with the Dwarves as they lived in the foothill of the mauntains, and they were the first to mowe westwards into the realm of Eriador. The Stoors are a broader and more heavy in build, there hands and feet were larger and they prefer flat land and riversides, they are not as shy of the great folk as the other two kinds and some of them even sail in boats.(Dk.Storene)
The Fallohides; a northern branch and the least numerous, with light skin and hair, they are often found as leaders or chieftains as they are more boulder and adventurous than the others, even they vere the last to foam Eriador. The Fallohides are mostly to settle near forests and threes, and becourse of that they have a better knowledge of Elves than the Stoors and Harfoots. (Dk.Gyldenhovederne)

Timeline and countering of the years for the Hobbits starts 1601 (in T.A.) years later for hobbits, in the files years will be written as T.A.sr. for Third Age Shire Reckoning. There reconing of years start when the two Fallohide brothers, Marco and Blanco, by permission of the King in Fornost (Argeleb II., T.A 1589-1670) crossed Baranduin / Brandyvine and settlet in the area where Bree is today. It is too about this time they begin to use the speech and writing, the vestron language, wich they learned from the fading Dunadain.
The Hobbits learned fast and and had no objecktions to grap skills and knowhow from others, there is not much they can call "there own" exept one thing : smoking and grewing the weed. Hobbits smoke this herb in pipes of clay and wood, and this habbit was spread out to all Middle-earth. Hobbit tales tells us that Tobold Hornblower in his garden in the southfarthing was the first to grew the real pipe-weed, and from here still the best weed is coming. The most famous varieties is known as Longbottom Leaf; Old Toby and Southern Star.
Of the Hobbit race there is no certain accaunt and only traces of there past in glimps can be discovered, of themselves they tell a little and i will here try to gather what i can and tell what i believe.
About year 1000 of the T.A. we find the first mentioning of the Hobbits in the ancient tales of Men and Elves, it is believed among Men and Elves they have for long lived in Greenwood or near its Western eaves and in the vale of upper Anduin but about this time they began to move west into Eriador. They moved because Men increased much at this time and because a shadow fell on Greenwood. there must have been some behind unwilling to leave or some small clans or families might have turned back, Gandalf tell us that Deagol and Smeagol definitly was of the same kind as the Hobbits in Eriador, and it was not before another 1000 years had gone Deagol found the One Ring and Smeagol struggled him. However it is there definitly are some similarities and one of the best to show thise similarities is the giving of gifts

As far as known Hobbits were monogamous, they were seldom married a second time even if the husband or wife died young, The family name decented in the male-line and women were adopted into there husbonds name. The titular head of the family was usually the oldest male of what was considered the most direct line of descent but the master and mistress was held to have equal status, either was held to be the proper representative of the other in case of absence including death of the other. If the master died first the wife took his place and position in the family / clan including his titular headship of the family. The title did not descent to the oldest son or heir, unless she voluntarily resigned. It could therefore happen that a long-lived woman with a strong character remained head of the family until she died or gave it up.
Of there language ( if they ever had one of there own, and the Hobbits themselves are divided in two opinions ), some say they originaly had a language peculiar to themselves and some say they from the beginning spoke a mannish language and that they in fact was a branch of the race of Men but whatever is true there is some traces of the Rohirrim native tongue in some old Hobbit words and even to names, in fact Dèagol and Smèagol are words who belong to the Mannish language of the upper Anduin. Of other Hobbit words belonging to the area of upper Anduin and Dale is Stoor, it is not found in the common speach but it is a usual word in the language of Dale. Another Hobbit-word Mathom is clearly the same as Màthum used in Rohan for treasure or rich gift.. This is fact and cant be gainsaid but it doesent tell us much of where they originaly came from like the Elves, Men and Dwarves trees and birds and it is now time to tell what i believe :)
The Hobbits derived long ago before the world was changed from mankind, outcast or children driven out of the commuitives because of low size or being deformed and individuals not able to feed themselves or to supply there clan/family with food. This would not be unusual in a tough world where everyone had to struggle and hunt to survieve, and much the same story can be seen with the Petty-Dwarves. But unlikely the Petty-Dwarves the Hobbits was not hostile to others but kept in the area of there kindreds, presumeably to have some kind of protection from the wild and to survieve on what was left behind or spilled. As the years went by they learned to live of what nature gave them and they learned to grow wheet and live of the land, slowly they became a people of there own.
